On Saturday the 1st of November our School participated in the Parkes Relay For Life at Northparkes Oval.

Relay For Life is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. Relay also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer. The event started at 4pm with a carers and survivors walk and our team along with many other teams from the community walked through the night finishing at 8am Sunday morning.

We were so blessed to have such a great team who were super keen to give everything a shot and showed great team spirit and respect as well as demonstrating one of our pearls – Advocacy!

I would like to say a BIG thanks to our team and the many helpers that made this event such a success. Our School managed to raise $1262.55 through our lunch and games on Friday, personal donations and selling drinks and ice-creams on the day. People were so generous with their time and money so thank you everyone!

Our 2014 Relay team members were: Rachel Magill, Hollie Oates, Deirdre Bennett, Michelle Bermingham, Rebecca Evans, Robyn Green, Katrina Harris, Suliana Naqau, Elisha Naqau, Narelle Peters, Renate Rothe, Indianna Bermingham, Mikeely Bermingham, Trilbie Bermingham, Camilia Brown, Madelynne Capple, Joshua Davison, Isabella Diener, Ashley Evans, Isabelle Evans, Joel Hall-Matthews, Laura Hall-Matthews, Emeline Lavaka, Leilani Lavaka, Toutai Lavaka, Bethany Magill, Jesse Magill, Luke Magill, Ryan McCracken, Rachael Nash, Aron Peters, Sophie McGrath, Ethan Peters, Isaac Westcott, Lachlan Westcott, Brianna Penrose, Nikiesha Bradley, Sally Diener, Adam Ridley and Thomas Simpson.

There were some heroic walking efforts on the night from our team who went above and beyond to really enjoy the night. Special mention should be given to Thomas Simpson and Toutai Lavaka, our 2 youngest team mates who each walked 20 laps and never gave up! Also to Jesse, Joel and Josh who each walked 101 laps and the dream team – Ashley, Maddy, Sally, Camilia, Isaac and Ethan who walked so much we stopped counting! How can we forget Ryan who entered the Relay Pageant and Lachlan who did not stop walking or meeting new people. We could not have put in a team without the help of Rach Magill, Deirdre Bennett and Bec Evans as well as the staff members and those countless people that donated food and helped in the organisation of fund raising and set up!

The event as a whole in Parkes raised a preliminary figure of approx. $45,000 for the Cancer Council. Looking forward to the next Relay For Life in 2016!
