On Wednesday 18th May, we had 4 teams from our school compete in the NSW Netball Gala Day held here in Parkes. Our teams consisted of 2 year 5/6 teams and 2 year 7/8 girls teams. Our students arrived with great enthusiasm for the day getting into training and warming up as soon as they arrived at the courts! The day saw a large number of schools from around the area competing to qualify to progress though to Orange later in the term.
Our 7/8 girls teams were in the competitive draw and started off the day with some stiff competition, however their determination was held high throughout all of their games. Our year 8 girls’ team won one of their games and had 2 very close games later in the day, only going down to 4-5 goals each game. Our year 7 girls played extremely well and didn’t give up despite not coming away with a win throughout the day. Well done to one of the year 5/6 mixed teams who won 4 out of their 5 games! Unfortunately they were in the non-competitive section so wont progress through to the next round, but we were extremely proud of their efforts!
A big congratulations to all of our students who competed in the day, never gave up and showed fantastic sportsmanship in every game they played. They were complemented by a number of other schools on their sportsmanship on the court, so well done to everyone!
Thankyou to Miss Barrass, Mr Denmead and Mr Pearce who helped out with the teams on the day. Also a big thankyou to Laura Cabban in year 8 for helping out with training and organising the teams. We look forward to further developing and strengthening the sport of netball within Parkes Christian School.
