Embracing the New

New, new, new! This has seemed to be the theme of my life for the past 9 months! New country, new town, new job, new friends, new role, new home. Everything, even down to the bed and toothbrushes…new!

There have been so many exciting things in the ‘new-ness’ and at the top of that list has been becoming a part of the PCS community. I have loved getting to know everyone and am so thankful to God for the privilege of being involved in each of the children’s own journeys in some way or another.

However, when you step into the ‘new’, into the unfamiliar, you need to be able to sit for a while (quite a while!) with the uncomfortable. The ‘newness’ around you acts like a magnifying glass on your life. Your character traits, habits, quirks and shortfalls that existed quite comfortably in the ‘old you’, stand out like a sore thumb!

And yet.

In the ‘new’, there is a constant, there is a solid foundation. In the ‘new’, there is Our God.

He is the same. The same God who time and time again, all through history, has shown us that He is trustworthy, loving and faithful. How do I know He can be trusted? How do I know He is loving? How do I know He is faithful?  The Bible. The greatest, real, love story of how an almighty God pursued His people, no matter what the cost. The God of the old testament, is the God of the new testament who is the God of today and the God of all to come. What an amazing blessing and constant to those in the ‘new’!

I want to encourage students that as the year ahead brings many new opportunities, to seize them with the full assurance that as they trust in Him,  our faithful, trustworthy and loving God is with them. Don’t let fear, doubt or feeling uncomfortable stop you from stepping out because God is walking with you and holding you in the ‘new’.
