Making More Memories

During week 4 this term, it was lovely to get all our K-6 students together to have a mufti day and disco at school during Periods 5 and 6. It was an exciting afternoon of dancing, singing and playing games. Disco Dan (Mr Fredericks) played the tunes, Mr Mac (Mr McCutcheon) set up the disco lighting, Mr D (Mr Denmead) and Year 5 set up the hall, our Year 6 students along with Mrs Greenland, packed the Snack Packs and our Primary teachers and support staff helped supervise, danced, joined in on the games outside and chatted to the students. It was a lovely afternoon of sharing and having fun together.

In the busyness of ensuring everything was running smoothly at the disco, Mrs King stopped me to look around and see how much fun all the students were having, laughing, dancing, chatting to friends and playing games outside. I was so thankful that she stopped me as I almost missed the chance to see the smiles and happiness on the students’ faces.

You may have heard it before, but Mr Westcott has often said…”We are in the business of making memories.” This is so true. Do you look back on your school days and remember the special days?

It takes organisation and a dedicated team to make sure everything is ready and running smoothly. From the people picking the songs, setting up the lighting, chairs, food packs to the the one who picks up the first aid pack, the one who orders the snacks, the person who is making sure the rubbish is going in the bin, the person who is packing up the games and equipment at the end and much more. I can not thank our staff enough for being so happy to take on extra tasks to make memories for our students. They lead by example and inspire our students to have hearts for helping.

This was so evident when our older students were dancing, looking after the younger ones and encouraging them with some tricky dance steps. Outside the hall, they were turning the skipping ropes for other students to have a go. I had some students happily take some boxes up to the bin the next day, students picking up those little popper straw wrappers and helping move the chairs. It is so lovely to see our students looking after each other and getting so much satisfaction out of helping and serving.

Our Bible verse for weeks 3 and 4 this term was Mark 10:45 For even the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Let’s continue to encourage our kids to do good, to have servant hearts and be kind to others.
