Experiencing Life

Mrs Wynstra and the team have been very busy this year organising work experience for our Year 10 and Seniors. Our students have been more keen than ever to complete work experience and see what options are available post-school. This drive to explore careers is something that is very exciting but only possible with a supportive community of businesses who open up their doors and offer to take on students. We are really blessed to have people who are willing to help grow and develop the interests of our students.

One of the questions Mr Westcott asks in enrolment interviews is about future career ideas and life beyond school. It serves a couple of purposes; we can get to know the student and their passions but also to see how students think and what drives them. It has been great to sit in on these and hear about hopes and dreams for the future and then when students start at PCS how these grow and change.

Working with teenagers as they are still trying to figure things out is wonderful and to know we live in a community that is willing to support students as they work through this too is so great to see! We have had students fall further in love with their careers through exploring them in work experience and even come out with job offers!

We have a full range of thoughts around life beyond school from those who are excited about the unknown, to those who are terrified and want to stay forever. We have those who know exactly what they want to do and how to do it and those who are still working through things. No matter where these students are at, we encourage them to keep exploring and trying things as they never know what may come up that could help them build skills and interest in a brand new area.

A big thank you to everyone who has encouraged or spoken into the lives of a young person and helped them to figure out what comes next. An especially big thank you to our community and local businesses who have supported our Work Experience Program.

Keep an eye out for our students in upcoming newsletters as they tell you about their time at work experience.

Have a great week!
