For all of you out there who are a certain age, you will remember the TV show MacGyver. He has gone down in Gen X folklore not only for having an amazing mullet, but for being the guy who can solve any problem, using any thing!
One of my favourites was the time he used a car muffler, steering wheel knob and a seat cushion to make a rocket launcher. Or when he plugged a leak in a vat of sulfuric acid with chocolate bars! The point is, he wasn’t a guy who saw a problem and gave up – he saw a problem and thought “how can I make a solution work?”
At PCS there are times when I feel like we are a bit like MacGyver. In fact, one of our staff members pretty much is MacGyver. Not Mr Mac (even though he would like to be!) Mr Wynstra can pretty much make anything out of anything! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we’re just making stuff up out of paperclips and firelighters. But we do know how to take tricky situations and come up with creative solutions.
In my time here at PCS it has always been the way we have approached things. When people have a tricky dilemma, we look for ways we can solve it. When it comes to the senior school and the HSC, I’d like to think of myself as a bit of a Morgan Freeman from Shawshank Redemption – a guy who knows how to get things done… and who can do awesome voiceover work!
But seriously, all of our team at PCS are very, very good at looking at the individual needs of students and working out the best way to make things work. Of looking for solutions, not problems. Of being creative and supportive, and encouraging the students to pursue their goals and interests. We’ve had students study TAFE courses while also completing the HSC, do work placements and secure employment straight out of school, study subjects that they didn’t know we could offer, pursue creative and sporting opportunities and still keep up with their studies – the list goes on.
If you or your child has something they are passionate about, or has a different idea of how to do things, or just wants to find out what might be possible – please get in contact with us and we will channel our inner MacGyver and see what we can do! As a Christian School we know that “with God all things are possible” so it’s always worth asking the questions and finding out what answers we might be able to come up with.
