5 Years as Principal

These July holidays mark a significant milestone for me as it will be 5 years since I became principal of PCS! In fact as I sit here writing this article, I can recall writing my application in the lead up to the school holidays. It is quite surreal to reflect on those events and all the adventures that have since followed. It is safe to say that I could never have fully appreciated or anticipated all that was to follow since accepting the role of principal. 5 years has absolutely flown in many regards, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

Having the chance to lead this wonderful school community is something I am still humbled by. As someone who had aspirations of being a ‘rock star’, life certainly has taken some interesting turns (as it often does). Through a series of cirm    cumstances, my wife Katie and I along with a toddler and a new baby arrived in Parkes just over 7 years ago. I can honestly say that it is only by the grace of God that we are here in Parkes today and invested in the PCS community; and how grateful we are for the experience.

I am really proud of what our school community has been able to achieve in the past 5 years. I have been so blessed in being surrounded by an incredible staff with endless talent and commitment to christian education. As a team we have worked so hard in trying to make PCS the best school possible, which hasn’t been without its challenges, but has been so rewarding also.

Purchasing land, completing new buildings, COLA’s, sporting courts, carparks and the physical appearance of the school has been so exciting and much needed for our students. However what I find just as exciting are those things that have happened behind the scenes. Things like quality teaching and learning, keeping PCS safe for our students, and doing what we can to make school memorable and fun are always at the forefront of my mind, and that of my team.

Our students are the reason we are all here, and what an amazing group they are. I know I have said it before, but I’m pretty sure they are the best student group in the Southern Hemisphere. Having the chance to work with all 300 of them, from our Kindies all the way up to our graduating Year 12’s, is something I will never take for granted. They are a crazy, fun, hard-working, talented and caring bunch who are all made by God for a purpose and here at PCS for a purpose. Let’s continue working together to make sure our students know it!

So as I sit here reflecting on 5 years as principal, I want to thank you for all your support of me and my team. I may be a little greyer than 5 years ago, but I have loved the journey and learned so much along the way. I know I’m not perfect, but I always give PCS my best and have the best interest of our students, staff and families at heart. As we celebrate 40 years of Parkes Christian School, I thank God for each of you and the role I have been able to play in the journey of this amazing school.

Have a great holiday PCS and I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 3!
